Preservative Essay Topics For Middle School Students
Preservative Essay Topics For Middle School StudentsPreservative essay topics for middle school students are a little tricky. On the one hand, we've heard of high school students being asked to write essays about the relationship between the history of preservatives and the environment. On the other hand, we also hear of high school students having to write essays about the relationship between the history of preservatives and they live in a city that relies on organic food for a large percentage of its diet. There are some preservative essay topics for middle school students that can be tackled without the use of either of these subjects. While there are various other ways that preservatives have been used, that's not going to get you very far as an essay topic. The goal is to write about something you already know about, and if you have some background, you'll probably be more successful. However, if you're not familiar with the role preservatives have played in our history, you may want to explore the subject further. One way to explore the relationship between preservatives and society is to do preservative essays on foods we're already familiar with. For example, there are foods that have preservatives, but those preservatives are also a part of our culture. For example, candies are often a part of the American childhood. While candy isn't technically a preservative, it is a part of our culture. It's also something that's available everywhere, and thus, we have a tendency to take it for granted that they will still be there when we get older.Other preservative essays can be done on the foods that we eat every day. We all eat grapes, apples, and vegetables, so what we write on our papers about those foods should also be relevant. If you're not a fan of white bread, you should try to identify the ingredients of things you like and use them in your essay.Preservative essays can also explore the origins of preservatives. Since many of us don't really understand how preservatives were discovered, and how they became part of our lives, the idea of writing about this period is extremely important. If you'd like to write about how preservatives came to be a part of our food supply, you should also be familiar with how they got there in the first place. You'll also want to consider how preservative essay topics work if you're not familiar with the history of preservatives. Because we depend on preservatives to keep many things in order, it's important to note how they came to be, and how they work. This should help you to write about the relationship between preservatives and your society. Finally, you should consider how preservative essay topics can change if the topic turns to foods we're not familiar with. It's sometimes difficult to write about something that we don't know anything about, and vice versa. If you're writing about a food that you don't eat, it's easy to slip into making assumptions, and you need to make sure you do your researc h before you begin your essay.Preservative essay topics for middle school students might include the relationship between preservatives and a major American cultural icon, or they might just show you how you can keep your readers interested in a relatively basic topic. Either way, it's important to remember to make it fun and informative.

The Music of Modest Mouse Essay Example For Students
The Music of Modest Mouse Essay This plane is definitely crashing! ? This was screamed by musician Isaac Brock and has stood as the capstone for the music that would form under a subtle title: Modest Mouse. Formed in Olympia, Washington, the sounds of Modest Mouse would shape the genres that fall under the characterizations of indie rock. More significantly than their music itself, Brocks lyrical content referred to many, as emo ? would define a generation of manic-depressives, lost in the mist of trailer parks and the ever so clichAÃ © drug world of the Lonesome Crowded West. Written and produced on their earliest record, Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset has given the indie rock community a glimpse into the bipolar state of mind many persons underwent during the late nineteen ninetys. This mindset is summarized by two words: Oh noose. Admittedly, every human being will undergo good and bad occurrences throughout their lifetime. Human emotion has evolved into something very overwhelming for many to grasp yet in the same context, shaped our coexisted history as human beings. We will write a custom essay on The Music of Modest Mouse specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The overwhelming dilemma every human is forced to deal with at one point or another in their lives is the legacy they leave behind once they no longer exist. Some base their entire livelihoods and daily decisions on this sole concept, and others just exist. Then there are those who fall in between. Modest Mouses twenty-year lead vocalist Isaac Brock is the epitome of those who fall in between. Constantly addressing his own existential crisis, Brocks lyrical content ricochets from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, and addresses the full spectrum that is human emotion. Through this evocative approach to writing, Brock transcends occurrences in his life into over dramatized songs that all of his audience has empathized with. That is where an understanding of bipolar disorder begins: Brocks writings. As a young child, the musician was exposed to an array of subcultures. Being brought up in the Midwestern United States, he moved between hippy communes and churches located throughout Montana and Oregon. At the age of eleven, Brock and his single mother moved to Washington State where copious amounts of his lyrical content would find influence. Found on the 1997 Lonesome Crowded West record, the song Trailer Trash ? would reflect on Brocks teenage years with lyrics such as Short love with a long divorce ? and I cant do anything, ? Brock made it very clear that external conflicts in his childhood would influence the unstable person hed eventually become. Seeing that his life was going nowhere in the eyes of society, and living in the shed of his mothers trailer, Brock wasted no time with the formation of Modest Mouse in 1993. At the mere age of eighteen, Brock and band mates such as notable drummer Jeremiah Green began recording their earliest tracks jumping straight forward into the DIY (Do it Yourself) attitude of the Seattle punk scene. They became an overnight success in underground music venues across the West Coast; straying from Southern California to the Pacific Northwest, their popularity picked up quickly and was officiated when they were signed by Warner based music label Sub Pop Records. Described by many independent music critics as introspective and cryptic, Modest Mouses mainstream success was one of biggest surprises the music community ever saw. They became genuine rock stars while their musical peers like Built to Spill remained cult figures. Their success would lead Brock to the life of a Rolling Stone: drug addiction, alcoholism, numerous DUI charges and most notably, a rape accusation. Bipolar disorder, more commonly referred to as the manic depressive illness, is a disorder within the human brain that causes influx or shifts in moods while inhabiting the diagnosed person from performing every day tasks successfully. .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841 , .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841 .postImageUrl , .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841 , .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841:hover , .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841:visited , .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841:active { border:0!important; } .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841:active , .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841 .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ua5b6b78bd2d3c4a4631f6f942948d841:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Music Summary EssayWhile the medical community claims the disorder may very well be genetic, many professionals have claimed that in most cases, it is dependent on a persons individual personality attributes. Manic depressives undergo overly long periods of feeling hopeless and lose interest in activities they would normally enjoy such as sex or human interaction. The earliest recorded example of Brocks disorder can be seen in the title of their debut studio album: This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About. Brock used the endless desert roads of the Western United States as a metaphor to reflect his own mental state. The record begins with the song Dramamine in that he describes his abuse of pharmaceutical drugs that in effect caused him to endlessly ramble on and on about nothing. Traveling, swallowing, Dramamine ? continued with lyrics But I cant focus on anything. ? Further on in the record, Brock elaborates on what the bands success has done to him mentally. In the song Head South, he explains how the band pawned their skis ? ultimately selling out for the shape of the palm tree scene, ? detailing a situation many musicians were faced with in the grand scheme of becoming successful. Brock was illicitly dealing with depression in the mist of writing the record as well, with apparent lyrics such as cause here things go from gray to gray and back to gray again, ? revealing a repetitive mental state. This can be characterized medically as a mood episode ? in Brocks life. Episodes can be broken down into two characterizations. Manic episodes are described as overly joyful and exciting while depressive episodes are sad and hopeless. Talking shit about a pretty sunset, ? begins with the lyrics Oh noose, tied myself in ? indicating clear thoughts of suicide. The songs audience can hear the discontent expressed in Brocks voice as his thoughts are brought out vocally. His lack of motivation and fear of commitment are all expressed when he begins to blame external parties for his own dissatisfaction. And I claim Im not excited with my life anymore, so I blame this town, this job, these friends, ? only to come to the realization that the truth is its myself. ? Through complex breaks and a dramatic climax, Brock describes an emotional tale in his own life where self-actualization and revelation are unfolded. After continuously engaging in counterproductive activities such as drug use and alcoholism he decides to take control of his destiny, Im trying to understand myself, and pinpoint where I am. ? He quickly comes to the realization that it is too difficult for himself saying, When I finally get it figured out, Ive changed the whole damn plan. ? This melancholy section of the song is concluded with the second mentioning of the noose tied around his neck revealing more coherent thoughts of suicide. Followed by an intermission period of instrumentals that seem bipolar on their own, the climax of the song is reached. Within this climax, the lyrics expressed by Brock portray self-actualization and motivation. Talking shit about a pretty sunset, ? is simply a statement to describe his cynical behavior. It becomes a metaphor for someone having a negative outlook on something positive. After these words are said, Brock becomes completely self-aware, Ive changed my mind so much I cant even trust it. My mind changed me so much I cant even trust myself. ? After being in such a depressive state for an enduring amount of time, he finally begins to take responsibility for his own unhappiness, and comes to an understanding that he is his own worst enemy. These lyrics are the most apparent evidence in the musicians writings that label him as a manic-depressive. Brock clearly understands he can never make his mind up because his mind changes him as a being from time to time. .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b , .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b .postImageUrl , .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b , .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b:hover , .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b:visited , .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b:active { border:0!important; } .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b:active , .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub369889e46ea021c22897e9cfe67c09b:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Silent Film and Music EssayAs a young adult trying to find himself in a distraught society, Brock needed to find fault in everything, having intense phobias of liking something because it might disappoint him in the end. After the fact, Modest Mouses audience can understand that the noose acted as a metaphor for backing oneself into a corner, unable to get out, a personal situation many have gone through. Although it is unclear whether Isaac Brock is a diagnosed manic-depressive or not, the medical and music community has a lot to learn from his writings. The bands wide scale success is mainly due to how relative their lyrics were in a time where new medical diagnoses were unveiling and over the counter drugs were becoming the norm. In listening to Modest Mouse, any individual can begin to understand their own troubles and learn how to live with them, just as Brock eventually would. In conclusion, some may argue that being a manic-depressive is the ultimate guide to creativity, with figures such as Ernest Hemingway or Charles Mingus as prime examples. Without the distraught occurrences Isaac Brock was faced with in his young adulthood or depressive episodes he underwent, Modest Mouse may have never seen existence. Investigated through the lyrical content of nearly two hundred songs and a dozen records, Modest Mouses audience has been granted the opportunity to relate their own experiences to that of Brocks and have a better understanding of the troubling society that was shaped around them. Once passed, Isaac Brock will stand as a figure- head not only in the formation of Indie Rock but as a spiritual leader for manic-depressives across the earth as whole.

Accident remedial measures are actions undertaken to correct perceived or actual deficiency or risks in road traffic to improve safety. Introduction Accident remedial measures are actions undertaken to correct perceived or actual deficiency or risks in road traffic to improve safety. IntroductionReferencesRelated Introduction Accident remedial measures are actions undertaken to correct perceived or actual deficiency or risks in road traffic to improve safety. A WHO 2004 report indicates that about 1.2 million people are killed annually the world over and forecast that by ââ¬Å"2020 road accident will be the second cause of death if the growing problems are not tackledâ⬠(WHO 1999) . Currently in the developing world it is the second largest cause of death after HIV Aids. Statistics indicates that on the average, the total cost of road accident is estimated to be about 2.5% of the Gross National Product of many nations. The Dft report (2009) indicates that accident place a huge economic and social cost to countries in terms of personal injury and damage to property. The above indicates that there is the need for a wide range of accident remedial measures to be adopted to curtail the risks of motorisation and reduce human suffering and social cost. To be able to target the appropriate remedial measure s to tackle this challenge, a good accident data system will be needed to determine where accidents cluster and permit decision makers to prepare and identify priority areas that need the most attention.à There are various ways by which this can be carried out such as ranking site by actual number of accidents (frequency) or rates of accidents occurrence (eg numbers per kilometre travelled) or the cost of the accident. The merits associated with using numbers is that it has the ability to portray actual injuries or death and makes the data easy to relate to and the actual impact known and understood even by lay persons, example media men in reporting road accidents to the public are more comfortable using numbers (frequency) to rates and it appeals to the public than using rates. In this sense it is argued that it is easier to communicate to stakeholders and the public using numbers than rates. This also enables sites to be ranked in terms of absolute number of casualties and road safety interventions targeted at those sites can be supported by politicians who may not have in-depth knowledge on rates since numbers are easier to understand than rates. Accident numbers refer to accident occurrence in a given stretch of road at a period of time. The use of numbers to set target are mostly used by practitioners because it allow the use of statistical models to determine significant relationship between dependent variable and a number of explanatory variables and rates calculated to compare risk level. This result can be used to predict effects of the accident and identify the key variable, example speed, alcohol that causes the accident and appropriate intervention adopted to mitigate impacts. One of the arguments against using numbers to set target for safety measures is that a change in the number of occurrence of accidents due to low flow of traffic will alter numbers even though the level of the risk may remain the same thereby given a false impression. It can therefore be misleading particularly on low flow traffic roads where a single accident can greatly alter the rate, thereby giving a false interpretation which can have a big impact on the outcome. Setting remedial measure using rates expressed in accident per number of population is recommended by most practitioners because it gives a value that can be easily related to and compared with local, national or international averages.à Example comparing road death per 100,000 populations in say 2009 between regions or nations to compare performance for evaluation. The formula for calculating this is express as: Annual Accident rate = number of accident Ãâ" 100, 000/ number of population. When accident data is combined with exposure to calculate accident rates such as number of road accidents per 100,000 populations, a more informative comparative level of road safety is achieved at international level depending on the availability and comparability of these data. It is widely argued in the transport sector that accident rate rather than numbers is a better performance measure in that the rates reflects the activity level and their relationship to the number of accidents. This tracks changes in the accident rates for a fixed volume of vehicle or human population. Example xyz accidents per 100,000 vehicles or population. By tracking the rate of accidents per vehicle or human population, decision makers can more accurately point out safety concerns or trends indicating potential safety concerns. It allows public risks to be calculated by extracting health risk rate from available population data such as number of deaths per 100,000 populations. One of the arguments against rates in target setting is that it is nebulous to appeal to non-professionals in road safety in that it is expressed in technical languages, example Nigeria proposing to reduce the number of seriously injured per billion vehicle- kilometres by 15% by 2020 may be too difficult to comprehend by non-road safety professionals. Also, indicators for rates per unit of exposure need its corresponding exposure data, example population per kilometre which are most time not easily available immediately. One of the disadvantage of using rates is that, regions with limited length of road network could register lower accidents due to average distance travelled and may give a false impression of the risks and the level of safety in those regions. Moreover, traffic risk is most appropriately measured using level of exposure data, example vehicle per kilometre travel which are not available in most countries and cannot not also be collected in the required level of details due to inconsistencies in definition of road network and different modes of transport used in different countries. The use of both numbers and rates as an approach by the UK in setting national target can be helpful in that depending on the situation, quantity and reliability of data, information on accident rates may vary to be used for proper prioritisation, therefore, it is appropriate to use more than one type of accident analysis in ranking the problem to achieve a balance assessment of data.à This data analysis can be based on accident rates, number of accidents or severity of injuries sustained or the cost of the accident. It is therefore appropriate to set targets in terms of absolute numbers and the rates so that where volumes traffic fluctuates the outcome can be amenable to treatment. The use of both measures allows comparison of risks of road travel modes with the risk frequency of occurrence so that transport safety budgets can be allocated most effectively References WHO (1999); World Health Report: Making a difference, Geneva: World Health Organisation WHO (2OO4) World Health Report on road traffic injury prevention, Geneva: World Health Organisation

For Elderly Shut-ins, It was Ken's Day Out Essay
For Elderly Shut-ins, It was Ken's Day Out - Essay Example I eagerly showed up the next morning to meet with the staff promptly at 11:30. Ms. Shields thanked me for coming and said it was a blessing to meet someone my age with so much enthusiasm to help. I began to beam and swell with self-admiration when she added, "But I'm sorry. Our insurance won't cover you until you're older. Our drivers have to be at least eighteen". Her words fell at my feet like cold stones from a child's Easter basket. My swelling pummeled into a quivering pool of disappointment. My thoughts raced like a balloon released before its time, wandering madly out of words and dropping hopelessly still. My face must have reflected the confused loneliness I felt inside as I could see Ms. Shields struggle for words that might comfort me. Her thoughtful eyes and graceful gestures gave me some hope. "I do have someone that might be able to use your help though", she said. "Ken is one of our more experienced drivers. Maybe you would like to ride with him today". I jumped at the chance as she motioned me to the kitchen where half a dozen ladies were arguing with an old man about the amount of pepper in the soup. Ken was a robust man for 87 years old. The years had hardened his features, yet left him a little pinkish from too little sun.
